the past couple of weeks:
after about two hundred hours of travel on trains, buses and taxi's, hiking, plenty of sunburns, exotic species, showering under natural mineral waterfalls, getting sick, tired, losing alot of weight, living in minority villages, seeing the most beautiful sights the human eye could see, meeting a million more friends, family and acquaintances...
we are now safe and relatively healthy in tianjin. this is our final week here and we are extremely busy saying goodbyes and making sure that we offer the most important gifts possible. in about a week, we will depart from beijing to san francisco. after a week in california i will head back to saskatchewan for the fall semester, while sonja will briefly return to ottawa and greet some of you there, prior to returning to london. ;) the last three months have taught us alot, and the past three weeks specifically have quite possibly changed the path
of our lives forever. we have continually noticed that if He is for us, no one can be against us. there is much that i am unable to write at the moment, but would love to tell you when i return - even then, i would not know where or how to begin. if i get the chance i'll upload
a few pictures soon. please continue to think of us... i *hope to see
you all again soon.

Below is an e-mail Josh sent out, for those of you who didn't receive it. Enjoy! --Lydia.

hey everyone! i didn't think i would have the chance to email anyone for the last month or so because i had thought the red guys had blocked me out or something. im sorry for the mass e-mail but i haven't been able to access the internet or my email in ages and i won't be able to for awhile after this... so i need to rush this, but anyways things are amazing.... we have been travelling all over the place the last few weeks and taking trains to unbelievable places! things are getting quite intimidating and if it wasn't for Dad i'd be freaking out... the public bathrooms are just a bunch of holes in the ground with no walls, so you just watch and smell 40 other guys taking a dump. most of us are no longer sick... so no more squirting! some of the places i sleep in look like the ceiling and or the walls will collapse on me, and the sheets are riddled with dead bugs of every variety. the weather is unbelievably hot and humid. we've travelled over 100 hours by train in the last week and about to jump in a pickup truck for another good 15 hours or so? please keep us in mind because the place we are going - we are likely sleeping in hammocks in the forest with like tigers and snakes and the like around. the girls are getting sorta tired and the backpacks are pretty heavy so please keep them in mind too. dan would be proud i know. we also bought some fancy hand-defense weap.... i mean large things to cut rope.

but things have been amazing, we spent a couple of days to see the sights in beijing, great wall, palaces and stuff, but the first seven weeks were spent in tianjin with lots of great things happening including a boy named tommy who now knows Dad, and many of those who want to, regularly hanging out with our students and people we meet... not to mention the f-_fulness of many little details like v. extensions, and train tickets and even family we never met before who felt lead to help us out moolah wise here! we then spent a week in inner mongolia and please keep a guy named kyle in mind, who gets in knife fights and lives promiscously, but he wants to give it all up, and wanted me to make sure i remembered him! and now we are about to head somewhere where i don't know the dialect for - so another language block and stuff...ummmm.... anyways we are sorta worried about alot of things, but everything has always worked out so far ptl! anyways there is sooo soo much more that i would like to say, but i can't... i don't know if i will be able to reply in awhile, but please write me back and tell me how you guys are doing!!! this is a new email addy so i don't have everyone in my addy book here so please forward this to everyone you know that i know.... like carl, burns, leanne, and well everyone that i haven't emailed from gmail yet... i love you all, i really really do, and i miss you all.... hope to see you again! i love you.
